Overview
Thanks for your interest in our Fair Use policy. Like most research and nonprofit collaborations, the Umm el-Jimal Project has a variety of content, intellectual property, and contributing partners. One of our project community’s key principles is to share this material in good spirit, while maintaining the appropriate noncommercial character of our work and respecting existing copyrights.
Therefore most of the content on UJ Blog is copyrighted under a Creative Commons 4.0 international license, meaning that material from the blog is free to share for non-commercial purposes as long as attribution of the source is provided. So get the word out and mix it up! Further questions can be directed to the Umm el-Jimal Project at project@ummeljimal.org, but several important details and caveats follow below.
We chose Creative Commons for fair use because at present it is perhaps the most widely recognizable and applicable set of open copyright tools. Version 4.0 of the license is especially important because it makes the license available globally. It also allows for common-sense attribution by users.
Terms
All original text and still imagery posted to UJ Blog by its respective authors are licensed to users under a Creative Commons 4.0 noncommercial, attribution, share-alike international license. This means this material may be shared and adapted under the following terms, as summarized in the link above:

“You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.”
Noncommercial
“You may not use the material for commercial purposes.”
ShareAlike
“If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.”
Attribution requirements are available at the following link: Creative Commons Attribution Best Practices.
